Box pushing is a technique that is being used to make underpass and subways below the road where open cut system is not possible. The purpose of pushing of Box is to form a horizontal opening below ground or through embankments, can say a tunnel, by providing precast box units underground or an embankment, without disturbing the overhead amenities, like traffic & structures. Box Pushing Technique is developed; where in R.C.C. Boxes in segments are cast outside on thrust bed and pushed through the heavy embankments of Rail or Road by Jacking
This technique is very suitable when the intensity of traffic at location of construction is very heavy and it cannot be disturbed so instead of open cut system this technology is being used.

Shuttering is completed along with the framework for jacking pockets. Concreting is completed and drag sheets are fixed in the first box. |

| 08. | When the box is ready for pushing, pockets are cleaned and pushing pins are fixed in them, followed by fixing of jacks. Thereafter, pushing is carried out in increments. |

Reinforcement is fixed in position followed by pockets and required shuttering is being provided for concreting of the thurst bed and reaction wall is carried out.
After thrust bed is casted, a layer of 50mm screed is to be laid above the bed. Screed is being lays over ismc 100, fixed on top of thurst bed.
Boxes are cast on thurst bed starting from placement of polythene sheet, cutting edge in first box and guide sheets followed by fixing of reinforcement. Shuttering is completed along with framework for jacking pockets. Finally concreting is completed and drag sheet are fixed in first box.
After boxes are casted eye opening is made before start of pushing.
When box is ready for pushing, pockets are cleaned and pushing pins are fixed in them followed by fixing of jacks. Thereafter, pushing is carried out in increments.
Once a box is completely pushed from thrust bed, another box is placed behind it and pushing is continued along with excavation of soil.
The process is continued until all boxes are pushed.
And First Box Enters The Opening At Other End.
Finally, jacks betw en the boxes are removed one by one and gap is closed successively.
Joints are sealed to prevent ingress of water in the opening.
